Homework - Week 1

Single drama

Boy A
This film is based off of the book; Boy A which is a 2004 novel written by British writer Jonathan Trigell, which is based off the true story of the killing of 2 year old boy James Bulger. Due to legal reasons the story isn't the same but the similarities are uncanny.

Serial
My choice of a TV serial is Suits, it's a legal drama and was first broadcast on June 23, 2011.  It was created by Aaron Korsh and produced by Gene Klein, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams. It was executivley produced by doug Liman and Dave Bartis. The main cast is Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres. The basic plot of the show is about an extremely talented college drop out named Mike Ross who works his way into being a law associate for Harvey Specter, despite never attending law school. The show focuses on Harvey and Mike managing to close cases while trying to keep Mike's secret. The show is linear as it has a clear start, middle and end, It's realist as it's set in real life.  There isn't a set hero in this series but each of the characters is a hero in their own right, someone always comes to save the day or be the hero that they need. You could say they have a villain; Jessica - played by Gina Torres. She has to make tough decisions that not everyone likes as she is the boss.
Loyalty is a very big theme that runs throughout the show as well as love, revenge, friendships and social issues.
The theme song for the show is 'Greenback boogie'. This is song is very catchy and if you watch the show you would instantly recognise the song if you heard it else where. The use of music is good, they will play music that suits the mood of the scene and what emotion each character is conveying eg if two characters are in a sex scene romantic, intense music will be played.
The camera shots are very interesting and you get a variety of different shots. You get skyline views of New York during the day and night, up close shots of the characters to show emotion, as well as wider shots when there's a few people in the shot and want to get everyone in eg; in a board meeting with 6 or more people they would need a wider shot as well as being able to move around the room so everyone would be seen.
